St. Luke’s United Methodist Church

Return to Worship Information

Welcome back to church!

As faithful disciples of Jesus Christ in the midst of our response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we remain committed to our Biblical mandate to “love our neighbors as ourselves” and our Wesleyan call to “Do no harm. Do all the good we can. Follow the ordinances (Stay in love) with God.” In doing so, we seek ways to engage faithfully in worship, study, and ministry while ensuring the health and safety of our members and communities. (WNCCUMC COVID-19 Response Guiding Principles, September 2020)

St. Luke’s is committed to safely offering worship in two ways: online/virtual worship and indoor worship. Online/virtual worship is available on the church website www.slumc.org, YouTube, and Facebook. Anyone with internet access can participate in our online worship services.

Congregants who meet the following criteria are invited to attend indoor worship if they so desire:

  • People who are well (no recent contact with infected persons, not exhibiting flu-like symptoms)

  • Clergy, worship team (technical and performing), ushers/lay leaders

  • People who are willing to wear a mask that covers mouth and nose

  • People who feel it is the right time for their family

During this first phase of reopening, all attendees must abide by the following guidelines:

  1. Pre-register for church attendance by entering your information online between Wednesday AM and 10 PM on Saturday prior to the worship on Sunday. Pre-registration is also available by phoning the church office during regular hours Wednesday or Thursday before the Sunday worship service. In addition to providing names and contact phone numbers, you will be asked health screening questions.

  2. Use hand sanitizer upon entry and exit.

  3. Wear your face covering from the time you exit the car until you return to your car after worship. All persons five (5) years of age and older must wear face coverings.

  4. Maintain a minimum distance of six feet from other congregants.

  5. See a screener at one of the three Sanctuary entrances who will check off name(s) if you are pre-registered or direct you to the late registration table for required information.

  6. Wait for an usher to seat you. Ushers will seat families or direct contact groups in designated safe-distance pew spaces.

  7. There will be no congregational singing.

  8. No nursery, preschool, children or students’ programs will be available.

  9. Restrooms are available.

  10. Offerings will be placed in one of the collection receptacles at the church entrances upon entering or departing.

  11. On Communion Sunday(s), you may pick up your individual communion elements packet as you enter the church. Instructions for the Holy Communion will be explained by the pastors.

  12. Exit the church only when directed by an usher. Once directed, continue moving until you reach the parking lot, as to avoid congestion.
